Generation Z is making a strong entrance into the labour market

Generation Z, made up of those born between 1997 and 2012, represents 16% of the active candidates we manage at Eurofirms, with a high concentration in cities like Barcelona and Madrid. Eight out of ten are finding their first job in the service sector, reflecting a more digital, flexible and service-oriented view of work.

Memberships among those under 25 years of age increased by 6.5% year-on-year

Although the youth unemployment rate remains high (26.5%), in the last year, one in four registered contracts has been for people under 25, driving a 6.5% growth in registrations. Although they only represent 12% of the population, this increase reflects the growth of this generation within the country’s productive fabric.

At Eurofirms, we analyse their distribution by sector, geographic presence and educational level

80% of contracts for people under 25 in Spain are concentrated in the hospitality, retail, logistics and events sectors, where there has been a 4.5% increase during the period from June 2024 to May 2025. The sectors with the lowest presence are agriculture (7%) and construction (3%).

In terms of geographic presence, the provinces with the highest proportion of contracts are Madrid (15.5%) and Barcelona (12.9%), followed by Valencia (5.8%) and Seville (4.2%).

Generation Z reflects an educational gap. Only 29% of people between 20 and 24 years old have higher education. The most common fields of study are Social Sciences and Law, Health Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture.
